About Program

Victoria’s Solar Homes Program offers rebates for the installation of solar Power systems and interest-free loans for the installation of solar batteries among Victorian homeowners with existing homes, homes under construction, and rental properties, helping them reduce their installation costs.

The Victorian Government provides a rebate of up to $1,400 for the installation of solar panel (PV) systems. These rebates are offered to Victorians with existing homes or homes under construction. There are also solar rebates for rental properties.

Rebates are released each month according to the scheduled rebate release dates. You can reduce your upfront cost further by applying for an interest-free loan to match the rebate amount.

To be eligible for a solar panel (PV) rebate, you must be:

You are the owner-occupier of an existing property or the owner of a home under construction where the system is to be installed
Combined household taxable income of all owners is less than $210,000 per year
Value of the property is under $3 million (for an existing home or when construction is complete)
Property address has not previously received a solar panel (PV) or solar battery rebate under this program
The property address has not had a solar panel (PV) system installed in the last 10 years*
You received a Solar Homes rebate and/or loan but have moved house. You can apply for another incentive at your new address as an owner-occupier if the property has not received these rebates before.

To be eligible for an interest-free solar battery loan, you must meet the following requirements:

Living in your own house: This program seems to be for folks who already own their house and live there, just like me!
Making less than $210,000 a year : This program sounds like it's for regular people, not millionaires, which is good news for me!
House under $3 million : This fancy program isn't for giant mansions! the house needs to be worth less than $3 million.
New battery, no problem : the property address has not previously received a solar battery rebate
Enough solar power : This seems a bit technical, but basically it means existing solar panels need to be strong enough to work with the battery.
Big enough battery : The battery needs to be a certain size to work with this program. a solar company can advise on this.
Pre-approval is obtained from your Distributed Network Service Provider (DNSP) to safely connect a battery to the grid
Okay with the grid people : There's a company that looks after the electricity grid, and they need to know about the battery before I get it installed.
